Overseas Art World Figures Visit Korean Writer's Studio... 'Dive into Korean Art'
Day 1 Visit to Writers Lee Hee-jun and Kim Ji-young's Studios
Introduction to Their Artistic Worlds and Strengthening Overseas Networks
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center announced on the 4th that they will hold the program "2023 Dive into Korean Art: Seoul" in conjunction with Frieze Seoul and KIAF on the 6th, inviting 18 key figures from the international art world to Korea to visit the studios of 12 artists based in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.

View original imageNow in its third year, this event was planned to provide an opportunity to introduce the artistic worlds of Korean artists more deeply by inviting art experts from around the world to support the overseas expansion of Korean artists.
The program, which started on the 3rd and runs until the 6th, includes participants such as Sohrab Mohebbi, director of the Sculpture Center in New York; Yung Ma, senior curator at the Hayward Gallery in the UK; Betsy Johnson, curator at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum; and Noam Siegel, former curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and LG Electronics, who will visit the studios of domestic artists.
On the 3rd, they visited the studio of artist Kim Ji-young to examine his work and had a session to ask questions about the production process. They then visited the studio of artist Lee Hee-jun to listen to explanations about the conception and background of his works.

The program will continue with visits to the studios of a total of 12 artists, including Kim Ji-young, Lee Hee-jun, Kwon Hye-won, Ryu Seong-sil, Kim In-bae, Min Seong-hong, Yoon Hyang-ro, Shim Rae-jung, Lee Jin-joo, Hong Seung-hye, Park Geurim, and Lee Jae-i.

An official from the Arts Management Support Center said, "Although the 'Dive into Korean Art' program is held over a short period, it provides an opportunity to introduce the artistic worlds of Korean artists deeply to overseas art world figures. As this is the first KIAF and Frieze event held after the end of COVID-19, we will strive to support the overseas expansion of more Korean artists through this opportunity."
