"2 out of 3 Office Workers Plan 'Chuseok Holiday Travel'... Domestic > Overseas"
Hotels.com Survey of 1,000 People
39% Plan Domestic Travel, 7% Overseas
Two out of three domestic office workers plan to travel during this year's Chuseok holiday. A higher proportion intend to travel within Korea rather than abroad, and many also plan to use their annual leave to extend the holiday period.
According to Hotels.com on the 4th, a survey was conducted from July 26 to August 1 among 1,000 Korean office workers aged 25 to 65 who have traveled domestically or internationally at least once in the past three years. The results showed that 65% of respondents said they are planning to travel during this Chuseok period.
The highest response was "planning domestic travel" at 39%, followed by 19% who said they are considering both domestic and international travel. Only 7% responded that they are planning overseas travel.
This year’s Chuseok holiday can be taken from September 28 to October 3, totaling six days off, including temporary holidays and National Foundation Day. Including Hangeul Day on October 9 and taking three days of annual leave in between, it is possible to have a maximum 12-day holiday.
56% of survey respondents said they intend to use annual leave to enjoy a longer Chuseok holiday. However, since the survey was conducted before the government designated October 2 as a temporary holiday, the figure includes 39% who planned to take annual leave on October 2 to extend the holiday.
The preferred travel companions during the Chuseok period were family, partners, and friends, in that order, for both domestic and international travel. Among those planning overseas travel, 81% considered Asia as their destination, followed by Europe at 12%. Reflecting this trend, major Japanese cities such as Osaka, Tokyo, and Fukuoka ranked within the top three most searched travel destinations on the Hotels.com Korea platform.
