Seoul Autonomous Police Conduct Special Motorcycle Crackdown in Gangbuk-gu Food Alley
The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee announced on the 4th that on the 31st of last month, it conducted a joint crackdown on various violations, including motorcycle traffic noise violations, in the area around Mia Sageori Station in Gangbuk-gu (Dobong-ro 8-gil), together with the Seoul Taxi Policy Division, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Gangbuk Police Station, Gangbuk-gu Office, and Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
This crackdown was the fifth joint operation conducted this year under the supervision of the Autonomous Police Committee. Previously, surprise inspections on illegal acts such as motorcycle noise violations during day and night were carried out at major locations in Seoul with heavy motorcycle traffic, including Dongjak-gu and Yongsan-gu.
This operation was conducted for about two hours from 8 PM to 10 PM in the area of Dobong-ro 8-gil, Gangbuk-gu, where many delivery motorcycles are expected to pass due to the concentration of restaurants in the food alley. A total of five cases were detected, including illegal removal of motorcycle mufflers and illegal modification of uncertified lighting and steering devices, and administrative measures will be taken.
The Autonomous Police Committee plans to enhance the effectiveness of crackdowns by pilot installing and operating six rear unmanned surveillance cameras capable of monitoring motorcycle violations in the second half of this year. In addition, it will simultaneously promote fundamental measures to eliminate internal combustion engines that cause noise through support for the 'Eco-friendly Electric Motorcycle Purchase Subsidy Project' promoted by the Climate and Environment Headquarters.
