Presidential Office to Continue Offering Seafood Menus to 'Boost Consumption'
Preparing at Least One Seafood Dish Every Day Next Week
The Presidential Office provided seafood menus in the cafeteria last week during the Fukushima nuclear wastewater discharge period, and seafood dishes will be included in the menu again this week.
According to the Presidential Office on the 3rd, the cafeteria will prepare at least one seafood menu item per meal from the 4th to the 8th.
On Monday the 4th, lunch will include clam meat cabbage soup; on the 5th (Tuesday), breakfast will have dried pollack kimchi soup, and lunch will feature stir-fried squid; on the 6th (Wednesday), breakfast will include fresh shrimp soup and steamed semi-dried pollack, and lunch will offer dried pollack soup and seafood green onion pancake.
On the 7th (Thursday), lunch will have braised flounder and flower crab soybean paste stew; on the 8th (Friday), breakfast will include dried pollack bean sprout soup, flying fish roe steamed egg, and stir-fried anchovies with chili paste, and lunch will serve steamed rockfish.
The Presidential Office provided daily seafood menus such as assorted sashimi, grilled abalone, and cold raw fish soup last week to dispel concerns about reduced domestic seafood consumption due to the Fukushima wastewater discharge and to encourage consumption. They plan to continue preparing seafood-based menus twice a week.
This is also to prevent damage to the domestic fisheries industry ahead of the Chuseok holiday. On the 31st of last month, President Yoon visited Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, with Chief Secretary Kim Dae-gi and National Security Office Director Cho Tae-yong to encourage merchants and had lunch featuring steamed flower crab and rockfish soup.
At the emergency economic and livelihood meeting he presided over on the 31st of last month, President Yoon emphasized, "We will swiftly and boldly support the seafood industry, which is currently suffering from fake news and false agitation," adding, "We will actively respond to baseless rumors and agitation, and allocate an additional 80 billion won in contingency funds within this year to promote the consumption of our seafood."
