At around 4:41 a.m. on the 3rd, a captain in his 50s went missing near Jisimdo Island off the coast of Ilun-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam Province, and the Coast Guard is conducting a search.
According to the Changwon Coast Guard, Captain A entered the water to assist in removing a rope caught in the screw of another fishing boat that had departed together about 1.1 km southwest of Jisimdo Island, but went missing.
The screw is a rotating blade-type propulsion device that moves the boat forward, and it is known that Captain A dived wearing diving equipment including an air tank.
The crew members on the vessel with the entangled rope reported the incident via a communication device (VHF) sending a distress signal to the Coast Guard after Captain A did not resurface even after completing the removal work.
The Changwon Coast Guard dispatched patrol vessels, coastal rescue boats from the local police station, and the Changwon Rescue Team to the scene, and is conducting a search of the sea and underwater area around the accident site with the cooperation of naval vessels and private rescue boats.
