Busan City will host the ‘2023 13th Busan Robot Competition’ at BEXCO from September 2nd to 3rd.

Since the first event in 2010, this will be the 13th competition, hosted by Busan City, organized by the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence, and supported by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education.

The competition consists of a total of seven categories: four for elementary school students and three for middle and high school students, with 185 teams and 357 participants nationwide who are interested in robots.

The four elementary school categories are ▲Robot Curling ▲Robot Siege ▲Robot Escape Room ▲Elementary Hackathon, and the three middle and high school categories are ▲2030 Busan Expo Artificial Intelligence Hackathon ▲Artificial Intelligence Robot Creation ▲Mission to Mars.

Outstanding participants will be awarded the Busan Mayor’s Prize and other honors.

‘Mission to Mars’ refers to the evaluation of the ability to build a robot to explore Mars, where survival is difficult, and remotely operate it to complete assigned tasks.

The opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on September 2nd, attended by about 40 people including Lee Kyung-deok, Director of the Future Industry Bureau of Busan City, the Director of the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence, and the Chairperson of the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam branch of the Korean Robotics Society.

In addition, various family experience programs and exhibition and promotional booths will be operated separately to enhance understanding of the robot industry.

Detailed information about each category and regulations of the competition can be found on the Busan Robot Competition website.

Lee Kyung-deok, Director of the Future Industry Bureau, said, “This competition will be a field experience venue to cultivate scientific literacy and creative thinking skills among youth,” adding, “Through this competition, I hope participants will have a meaningful time to step away from theoretical education and actually verify their robot control capabilities.”
