First Ever Russian Regional Elections Held in Four Areas
Russia is holding its first local elections in territories it captured during the war with Ukraine.
Early voting for the Russian local elections scheduled for September 10 is underway in the Donetsk People's Republic as of the 31st of last month (local time).

According to major foreign news outlets on the 1st (local time), Russia is conducting early voting for local elections in areas it calls "new territories," including Donetsk.
Russia will hold local elections nationwide on the 10th. This election will also take place in regions that Russia claims to have newly annexed, such as the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) in eastern Ukraine, as well as southern Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. This is the first time these four regions are participating in Russian local elections.
Early voting began on the 31st of last month in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.

Bloomberg reported that early voting started on the 25th of last month in other parts of Russia. Early voting is reportedly conducted by election commission members visiting voters' homes in the respective regions.
