Gwangyang Port, Janggeum Shipping's New 'Con' Vessel 'Yeosu Voyager' Arrives
World's First Use of "Yeosu" Place Name
Expected to Generate Cargo Volume and Promote the Area
Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, hereinafter referred to as the Authority) announced that it held a commemorative event for the entry of Janggeum Shipping's newly built container ship, the "Yeosu Voyager," into Gwangyang Port on the morning of September 1 at the Gwangyang West Container Terminal (GWCT).
At the event, President Park Seong-hyun of the Authority, Kim Jong-gi, Deputy Mayor of Yeosu City, and Kim Kyung-tae, CEO of GWCT, attended to celebrate the fact that the first container ship using the city name representing Yeosu Gwangyang Port (Yeosu) was newly built this year, the 100th anniversary of Yeosu Port's opening. They presented specially made commemorative plaques to the captain and chief engineer, along with local specialty seafood products from Yeosu City, symbolizing contributions to promoting seafood consumption.

View original imageThe naming of Janggeum Shipping's new container ship as "Yeosu Voyager" is known to have been made possible thanks to the cooperation of Chairman Jeong Tae-sun, who readily accepted President Park Seong-hyun's proposal during Janggeum Shipping CEO Geum Chang-won’s invitation to Gwangyang Port CEO marketing event in April last year.
In particular, in January next year, Janggeum Shipping's "Gwangyang Voyager" will also be newly built, and it is expected that the "Yeosu Voyager" and "Gwangyang Voyager" will travel the world together, contributing to the creation of cargo volume at Gwangyang Port.
President Park Seong-hyun said, "It is very meaningful that the world's first container ship using the place name representing Yeosu Gwangyang Port has started its first voyage this year, marking the 100th anniversary of Yeosu Port's opening," adding, "We expect the Yeosu Voyager to serve as a private diplomatic ambassador for Yeosu City and Yeosu Gwangyang Port by calling at China, Malaysia, India, and other ports, and to contribute to the creation of container cargo volume at Gwangyang Port."
