Prosecutors Indict Two Construction Union Members for Assaulting Police Officers and Detain Them
Obstruction of Official Duties and Injury Charges
The prosecution has arrested and indicted two members of the Construction Workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (Minjunochong) on charges of assaulting police officers during a protest.
On the 31st, the Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Seo Hyun-wook) announced that Jeong and Moon were arrested and indicted on charges of obstructing official duties and assault.
On the afternoon of the 12th, while performing a demonstration in front of the King Sejong statue at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to protest against Japan's discharge of radioactive contaminated water into the ocean, they punched a police officer in the face who was trying to stop them. As a result, the police officer was diagnosed with a lumbar sprain requiring two weeks of treatment.
