Gwangju Seobu Fire Station Urges Caution Against Bee Stings During Grave Mowing Season
Gwangju Seobu Fire Station on the 31st urged caution regarding bee sting accidents during outdoor activities such as grass cutting during the upcoming Chuseok holiday in September.
According to the fire department, the average number of bee sting accidents in the past three years increased 3.3 times from 367 cases in June to 1,224 cases in July, with 78.8% concentrated between July and September, requiring special attention.
To prevent bee sting injuries, it is essential to wear a hat and long clothes when going to the mountains.
Bees show strong aggression toward dark colors such as black or brown, so wearing clothes in light colors like white is recommended to prevent safety accidents.
Also, perfumes, cosmetics, and hair sprays can stimulate bees with strong scents, so they should be avoided. Sweet foods such as juice or fruit can attract bees and should not be brought along.
If you find a beehive, do not touch it, and if it is disturbed, cover your head and quickly move more than 20 meters away. In case of a bee sting, allergic reactions such as hypersensitive shock may occur, so wash the stung area with clean water and seek medical treatment promptly.
