Gyeonggi Fire Department Appoints 14 Dedicated Interpreters for Foreign Investigation Cases

On the 31st, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that on the 30th, they appointed 14 interpreters from eight countries including China, Vietnam, Mongolia, Taiwan, Russia, Cambodia, Laos, and Pakistan to enhance the investigative expertise on foreign fire-related offenders.
They will serve as dedicated interpreters for the Gyeonggi Fire Special Investigation Unit during investigations involving foreign suspects for the next year.
The number of foreign fire-related offenders has been increasing, with 2 in 2020, 1 in 2021, 3 in 2022, and 3 as of August this year.
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters expects that with the activity of foreign interpreters, clear communication and opportunities for statement during investigations of foreign suspects will be secured, thereby raising the investigative expertise on foreign fire-related offenders to a higher level.

Jo Sun-ho, head of the Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, "We selected the final 14 interpreters after comprehensively reviewing their residency period in Gyeonggi-do, judicial interpretation and translation experience, and recommendations from the foreign fire safety instructor group 'Global Safety 119 Instructor Group' and foreign welfare centers. We plan to analyze the performance and demand for interpreters and expand the program accordingly."
