View original imageLee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, attended the "Republic of Korea Local Governments Climate Adaptation Declaration Ceremony" hosted by the Local Governments Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition, held on the afternoon of the 30th at the Grand Ballroom of Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
Under the theme "Local-Led Climate Adaptation, Scale up Local Adaptation, Act now!", the declaration ceremony was attended by Lim Sang-jun, Vice Minister of Environment, Kim Sang-hyup, Private Chairman of the Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Committee, Yoo Jeong-bok, Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, and heads of more than 20 local governments.
The event began with an opening address by Han Hwa-jin, Minister of Environment, followed by the presentation of the "Republic of Korea Local Governments Climate Adaptation Practice Declaration" by local government heads, a calligraphy performance, presentations on local climate adaptation cases, and concluded with a closing address by Kwon Ik-hyun, Chairman of the Local Governments Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, belonging to Group 4 along with Yeongdeungpo District of Seoul and Yeonsu District of Incheon, jointly read the declaration phrase, "Prioritize climate adaptation policies and establish an implementation system and local foundation to enhance effectiveness."

Mayor Lee Pil-hyung of Dongdaemun District stated, "Our district aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 1.58 million tons in 2018 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050," adding, "To transition to a carbon-neutral society, we will take the lead in responding to the climate crisis by establishing a Dongdaemun-type carbon neutrality system in partnership with the Dongdaemun Carbon Neutral Support Center, which will open on August 31."
