‘The Debut: Dream Academy’ 20 Participants Profiles
Average Age 18, First Greeting ‘Annyeong’ in 12 Languages
Participants of the global girl group audition program “The Debut: Dream Academy,” jointly conducted by HYBE and Geffen Records, have been revealed. On the 29th, profiles including photos, nationalities, ages, nicknames, and words describing themselves were uploaded on the official SNS channels (Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Facebook) of “The Debut: Dream Academy” and on Weverse.
Among 120,000 applicants from around the world over the past two years, 20 participants were selected through a fierce competition with a ratio of 6000 to 1. The participants have an average age of 18 and come from 12 countries (6 from Asian countries, 6 from the United States, 4 from Europe, 2 from South America, 1 from Australia, and 1 with dual citizenship of the Philippines and the United States). In the photos, the participants posed naturally with simple makeup and outfits.
The photos that best expressed “the most authentic self” reflected the participants’ confidence and poise. A HYBE official explained, “They freely took photos on campus in the looks that suited them best. We wanted to show the participants’ charm without any embellishment.”
The participants each wrote “hello” in their native languages and briefly introduced themselves. The greetings written in different languages such as English “Hi,” Slovak “Ahoj,” Spanish “Hola,” and Swedish “Hej” revealed the program’s identity emphasizing diversity. Additionally, each participant presented three words describing themselves, sparking curiosity. Among them, 15-year-old Yoon Chae chose “sexy, cutie, innocent,” while another Korean participant, Na Young, selected “pure, lively, bright,” drawing attention.
At the global press conference held that morning, HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk said, “Just as they come from diverse cultural backgrounds, we will do our best to help them show their best in the countries and cultural spheres connected to each talent.” He also stated, “We will not forget our respect for K-pop, and Korea will be a very important activity country for our group,” raising expectations for future activities in Korea.
