Elders, Take a Rest... Gwangju Dong-gu's 'Baekse Anshim Chair'
Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has pilot-installed 'Centenarian Safety Chairs' for pedestrians with mobility difficulties at two locations: the entrance of Pureungil Park Plaza and behind Baekjo Apartments.
Dong-gu plans to expand the installation to 13 neighborhoods by the end of October, focusing on residential areas with frequent elderly foot traffic, bus stops, and traditional markets.
The 'Centenarian Safety Chair' can be used by anyone in need of rest, including children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities who have difficulty walking.
This initiative was promoted as part of a resident-specialized project after being certified as the first age-friendly city in the region by the World Health Organization (WHO).
