Yongsan-gu Enhances Utilization Through Public Data Improvement
Providing Public Data in Various Formats such as File Data, Open API, and Visualization
The ‘Public Data Portal’ provides public data created or managed by public institutions for anyone to use. This includes public data related to Yongsan-gu, such as major tourist attractions, apartment status, and convenience facility information.
Accordingly, Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) has enhanced the utilization of public data through improvements. The quality has been improved to allow users to access public data easily and conveniently, and it is provided in various formats such as file data, OpenAPI, and visualization.
OpenAPI (Application Programming Interface): refers to an interface publicly available for anyone to use, enabling the development of applications by utilizing operating systems, systems, applications, libraries, etc., and is used as a software development tool.
From August last year for one year, it was confirmed that 17,968 file data downloads and 341 API uses related to Yongsan-gu were made on the ‘Public Data Portal.’ By sector, there were ▲3,275 downloads in cultural tourism ▲2,433 in public administration ▲3,142 in health care ▲1,947 in transportation and logistics, with the cultural tourism sector having the highest number of downloads.
In particular, the district conducted a demand survey and discovered customized data with high utilization value in the tourism sector. File data on major tourist attractions and regionally specialized streets, virtual reality (VR) content, and spatial information (SHP) files were opened, receiving high user response.
In the future, VR content for tourist sites, road tourism, and regionally specialized streets will also be serviced on the district’s website. The ‘Yongsan-gu Big Data Platform’ provides 176 major policy and statistical data items organized into 11 sectors for easy utilization.
A district official stated, “The utilization of public data in the cultural tourism sector increased by 43% compared to the previous year,” adding, “This is likely because we focused on improving the quality and correcting errors in the open data.”
So far, the district has continuously promoted the updating and quality improvement of data opened on the portal. By regularly conducting self-inspections by department personnel and organizing duplicate and erroneous data, trust in public data was secured, thereby enhancing utilization.
