[Photo] Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, Visits Special Memorial Exhibition for Late Artist Lee Woo-young
On the 26th at 3 PM, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, visited the special memorial exhibition for the late artist Lee Woo-young titled "Lee Woo-young 1972-2023: Every Day, My Story Geomjeong Gomu-shin" held at the Seoul Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery.
The comic "Geomjeong Gomu-shin" is a work by Lee Woo-young set in 1960s Seoul, depicting the stories of elementary school student Gi-yeong, middle school student Gi-cheol, and their families. The series was serialized in the comic magazine "Boy Champ" from 1992 to 2006, and later adapted into an animation, becoming a beloved national comic enjoyed by families together.
However, Lee Woo-young engaged in a three-year legal battle over copyright contracts related to this work before passing away in March. In response, the district is holding the artist’s first memorial exhibition to highlight the rights and copyrights of artists who have been overlooked, and to provide cultural enjoyment opportunities for all age groups through the exhibition of the national comic "Geomjeong Gomu-shin" content.
The special exhibition at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery, "Lee Woo-young 1972-2023: Every Day, My Story Geomjeong Gomu-shin," features various audiovisual media including the artist’s works, materials, interview videos, and memorial songs. Notably, visitors can see the first editions of 45 volumes of the long-running 14-year serialization of "Geomjeong Gomu-shin," 23 original drawings from the series, and oil paintings created by the artist.
The exhibition runs until September 3 at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery. It is open on weekdays (Tuesday to Friday) from 2 PM to 8 PM, and on weekends from 12 PM to 8 PM. Admission is free and open to everyone.
