"Move Over Usain Bolt"... 'New Track Emperor' Ryles Sweeps 100m and 200m Titles
World Athletics Championships Men's 200m Victory in 19.52 Seconds
Noah Lyles (26, USA), the leading figure in American track and field, has emerged as the next generation track emperor, becoming the first athlete since Usain Bolt (37, Jamaica) to win gold medals in both the 100m and 200m at a single World Championships.
On the 26th (Korean time), Lyles won the men's 200m final at the 2023 World Athletics Championships held at the National Stadium in Budapest, Hungary, with a time of 19.52 seconds.
Earlier, on the 21st, he claimed the top spot in the men's 100m final with a time of 9.83 seconds. The 9.83 seconds is the fastest time recorded by male track athletes in various competitions this season. It is also Lyles' personal best. While setting his new record, Lyles said, "A new story is needed in track and field. When I said I would challenge for the 100m title, many people laughed. But I was confident and ultimately succeeded." He added, "The world of athletics will remember 2023 as the year 'Lyles won the World Championships 100m, 200m, and 400m relay.' Some might even call it 'the beginning of a dynasty.'"
Lyles also succeeded in achieving a three-peat in the 200m, a feat only Bolt had accomplished before. Following the 2019 Doha and 2022 Eugene championships, he completed a three-peat in the men's 200m at the World Athletics Championships.
He is the fifth athlete to win gold in both the 100m and 200m at a single championship, following Maurice Greene in 1999, Justin Gatlin in 2005, Tyson Gay in 2007, and Usain Bolt.

Lyles is also a symbol of overcoming adversity. He suffered severe asthma in his childhood, to the point of having seizures, and after entering school, he was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia. His mother played a major role in overcoming all these challenges. Thanks to his mother's dietary regimen and education in art and music, he was able to improve his health and concentration. His life story is currently being produced as a documentary by the global online streaming service Netflix.
