'Following the Semiconductor Belt'... Yongin's Transportation Network Will Change Dramatically
City Establishes 2025-2029 Mid-Term Plan
Comprehensive Measures for Road and Railway Network Expansion
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is reorganizing its urban transportation network centered on the semiconductor industry.
On the 25th, Yongin City announced that it has launched a project to establish the "2025-2029 Urban Transportation Maintenance Mid-term Plan" to set the direction of transportation policies reflecting changes in urban structure and traffic conditions.
At the 'Yongin City Urban Traffic Maintenance Mid-term Plan Establishment Project Kick-off Meeting' held on the 23rd at Yongin City Hall Vision Hall, attendees are pledging to successfully establish the plan.

This plan is a five-year statutory plan that concretizes the sectoral plans of the 20-year (2020-2039) "Yongin City Urban Transportation Maintenance Basic Plan" established by the city in 2021. Earlier, on the 23rd, the city held a kickoff meeting at the City Hall Vision Hall to discuss the project direction and detailed schedule.
In this mid-term plan, the city intends to include road and railway network expansion plans that organically connect major hubs for future industrial development, such as the Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex in Idong and Namsa (Cheoin-gu), the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster (Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu), the Samsung Electronics Future Research Complex (Nongseo-dong, Giheung-gu), covering 12.44 million square meters of semiconductor-specialized complexes, and the Yongin Platform City (Bojung, Mabuk, Singal-dong, Giheung-gu), which is one axis of the "Yongin L-shaped Semiconductor Belt."
A city official explained, "With the completion of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster scheduled for 2026, it is essential to expand a dense and innovative transportation system connecting the logistics movement of SK Hynix and about 50 partner companies, as well as the residential hinterland for on-site employees."
To this end, the city plans to prepare a comprehensive transportation plan linked with the expansion of major road networks such as Local Road No. 82 (Namsa~Jangji) and Local Road No. 57 (Wonsam~Mapyeong), as well as railway network expansion projects including the extension of the Gyeonggang Line and Seoul Subway Line 3.
The plan will also include ideas to improve the metropolitan transportation system and expand public transportation infrastructure to facilitate convenient use of buses, railways, and transfer hubs.
Additionally, the city will review effective operation plans for parking facilities, traffic safety improvements, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and demand-responsive transportation systems (DRT).
The project is entrusted to Seo Young Engineering and Peace Engineering. The city will invest 417.29 million KRW of municipal funds to complete the project by December next year.
