Seoul City to Provide Additional 200,000 KRW Monthly Childcare Support for 'Teenage Moms and Dads'
Seoul City announced on the 25th that it will provide an additional monthly child-rearing allowance of 200,000 KRW to youth (single) parents who are raising children while simultaneously pursuing their studies or employment at a young age.
Youth parents refer to parents who are both 24 years old or younger and raising a child, while youth single parents are mothers or fathers aged 24 or younger.
The city has relaxed the income criteria for the child-rearing allowance to 90% or below of the median income so that more youth (single) parents can receive the allowance, and decided to provide an additional 200,000 KRW per child per month.
Accordingly, youth parents with an income at or below 60% of the median income will receive a total of 400,000 KRW per month, combining the existing 200,000 KRW child-rearing allowance with the new "Seoul-type Child-rearing Allowance" of 200,000 KRW. Youth parents with an income between 60% and 90% of the median income will newly receive 200,000 KRW in child-rearing allowance. For youth single parents, those with an income at or below 65% of the median income will receive a total of 550,000 KRW per month, combining the existing 350,000 KRW allowance with an additional 200,000 KRW, while those with an income between 65% and 90% will receive 200,000 KRW per month.
Support for self-reliance will also be expanded. Youth parents with an income at or below 90% of the median income will newly receive a "Self-Reliance Promotion Allowance" of 100,000 KRW per month. All youth (single) parents will be given priority selection opportunities at the Youth Employment Academy and receive a monthly transportation allowance of 100,000 KRW.
Youth single parents will continue to receive a monthly self-reliance promotion allowance of 100,000 KRW up to 90% of the median income, and will newly receive up to 1,540,000 KRW annually for "GED study expenses." Previously, the monthly self-reliance promotion allowance of 100,000 KRW was only provided to youth single parents with an income at or below 65% of the median income.
