Naju City Council Issues Statement Condemning Fukushima Contaminated Water Discharge

The Naju City Council in Jeollanam-do (Chairman Lee Sang-man) announced that it has issued a statement condemning the Japanese government's decision to forcibly discharge Fukushima contaminated water into the ocean at 1 p.m. on the 24th.

In the statement, the Naju City Council condemned the Japanese government's irresponsible decision to discharge nuclear power plant contaminated water into the ocean and strongly urged the withdrawal of this heinous decision that will cause terrible consequences.

In particular, it pointed out that the Japanese government's act of discharging contaminated water is an act of terrorism that ignores the international law obligation to preserve the marine ecosystem and a criminal act that infringes on the right to life of humanity and all living beings.

It added, "There is absolutely no such thing as safe discharge as claimed by the Japanese government," and urged, "Immediately withdraw the decision to discharge nuclear power plant contaminated water into the ocean, which drives all life living in the marine ecosystem to death."

The council also strongly condemned the Yoon Seok-yeol administration for abetting the Japanese government's discharge of Fukushima contaminated water into the ocean and raised criticism against the government.

It strongly criticized the government for showing behavior where the Presidential Office directly led the production of a YouTube promotional video last month with the content that "discharging Fukushima contaminated water is not dangerous to our country," using the Presidential Office budget, saying it is beyond shame and filled with anger.

The council stated, "The ocean is a public good enjoyed by all humanity and all living beings, not only for those living now, nor for any one region or country," and condemned the Japanese government and the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, saying, "The people of the Republic of Korea will never forgive Japan's discharge of contaminated water, which sins against history, nor the Yoon Seok-yeol government that paved the way."
