This year’s festival will open with a ceremony on the 14th, followed by screenings of 147 documentaries from 54 countries at CGV Goyang Baekseok and Megabox Baekseok Bellacitta from the 15th to the 21st.
The festival has notably reorganized its program sections, dividing the competitive categories into International Competition, Frontier Competition, and Korean Competition. The non-competitive sections are categorized as Verite, Docufiction, Essay, Expanded, and Special Programs.
Among the works screened in the Expanded section, seven films will be available from September 14 to 20 at Camp Greaves, located within the Civilian Control Zone, as part of the 'Non-Theatrical Program.'
The opening ceremony will take place on September 14 at the outdoor performance hall in Imjingak Peace Nuri Park. To facilitate attendance for residents of Gyeonggi Province, a 'DMZ Peace Train' will operate from Seoul Station to Imjingang Station.
The opening film is The Eternal Memory, which documents a Chilean journalist who once captured the fervor of the country’s democratization movement and is now battling Alzheimer’s disease. The film portrays the deep love of an elderly couple while exploring their contributions to Chilean journalism and democracy, and the legacy of that era’s significance today.
During the festival, Docs On Stage, a combination of film screenings and performances, will be held at the Goyang Flower Exhibition Hall and the CGV Goyang Baekseok lobby. Additionally, official screenings and the youth online education program 'Doc School' will be available on the online screening platform VoDA.
The DMZ Docs Documentary Market, which discovers, supports, and nurtures outstanding documentary projects from Korea and Asia, will hold pre-workshops from September 10 to 13, followed by the main event from September 15 to 19.
