National Mokpo University Wins Excellence Award at Local Content Hackathon Competition
The team ‘Yeonkkotboda DorimF4,’ composed of students from the Local Creator Microdegree program at Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol), received an Excellence Award at the ‘2023 Local Content Hackathon’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small Enterprise and Market Service.

According to Mokpo National University on the 21st, the hackathon was held over two days from the 17th to the 18th at the Commode Hotel in Busan, organized by the Korean Standards Association. Students from seven universities selected as Local Content Universities by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups participated in the event.
The ‘Yeonkkotboda DorimF4’ team, consisting of Song Jun-gyu (3rd year Business Administration), Choi Jong-won (4th year Tourism Management), Jeon Si-eun (4th year Tourism Management), and Jung Hyuk-in (4th year Physical Education) from Mokpo National University, proposed the idea of founding a student-invested cooperative commons bar called ‘Dorim1946’ in vacant stores in the Mokpo University back gate commercial district, earning them the Excellence Award.
Jeon Si-eun, a 4th-year student in the Department of Tourism Management who participated in the hackathon, said, “This hackathon gave me a greater opportunity to take an interest in local startups,” and added, “I am grateful to Professor Lee Han-geun of the Business Administration Department and Hong Dong-woo, CEO of Gwaenchanmaeul, for their guidance that helped us win the award.”

Professor Lee Jin-hyung of the Department of Tourism Management, who serves as the head of the Local Creator Development Project Group at Mokpo National University, stated, “The students’ ideas winning an award at this competition shows the potential for innovative small business startups based on local content in the Mokpo University back gate commercial district,” and added, “We plan to hold a local startup idea contest to revitalize the school’s back gate commercial district during the second semester under the project group’s supervision.”
