Erdogan "Wants Meeting with Putin"... Possible Venues Mentioned: G20, UN General Assembly
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkiye, announced on the 21st that he wishes to hold a face-to-face meeting with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, in September. The possible locations for the meeting mentioned were India, where the G20 summit will be held, or the United States, which is scheduled to host the UN General Assembly.
According to major foreign media on the 21st (local time), President Erdogan, speaking to reporters on the plane returning from a visit to Hungary, said, "In September, the G20 summit will be held in India, and the UN General Assembly will take place in the United States. If the opportunity arises amid the busy schedule, I would like to meet face-to-face with President Putin."
The Turkiye government initially sought to hold a bilateral summit between the two leaders in Turkiye this month, but as the situation was not favorable, it appears they shifted towards meeting in a third country.
On July 7th, after holding talks with Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, President Erdogan stated at a press conference, "Next month (August), President Putin will come to Turkiye."
