Princess Leonor, First in Line to Spanish Throne
Scheduled for 3 Years of Training at Army, Navy, and Air Force Academies
Spain's First 'Queen' in 200 Years Expected
Princess Leonor (17), the first in line to the Spanish throne, has reportedly enrolled in the Army Military Academy. Princess Leonor is expected to undergo training at the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies over the next three years.
According to European local media such as 'The Times' on the 20th (local time), Princess Leonor arrived at the Zaragoza Army Military Academy in Spain on the 17th, marking the beginning of her three-year military training.
Earlier, Margarita Robles, Spain's Minister of Defense, revealed detailed plans for Princess Leonor's military training at the Cabinet meeting in March.

(The princess) will become the commander-in-chief of the military after completing the appropriate course," adding, "The military has been striving to integrate women into the organization."
Princess Leonor, the eldest daughter of the current King Felipe VI, is the first in line to the throne. She has already been granted the title 'Princess of Asturias,' which is bestowed upon the eldest daughter expected to succeed the monarchy. She is set to become Spain's queen, the first in about 200 years since Queen Isabel II.
In constitutional monarchies such as Spain and the United Kingdom, the monarch nominally serves as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Therefore, royal family members likely to become monarchs customarily undergo mandatory military training. Prince William and Prince Harry, sons of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, served as army helicopter pilots for 7 years and 6 months, and 10 years, respectively.
Prince William of the United Kingdom also served in the army for about 7 years and 6 months.

In Princess Leonor's case, she enlisted immediately after completing her high school education. She studied for two years at UWC Atlantic College in Wales, known as the "high school for royals."
Going forward, Princess Leonor will complete a one-year training program at the Zaragoza Army Military Academy before moving to the Naval Academy. At the Naval Academy, she will undergo maritime training aboard the Spanish Navy training ship 'Juan Sebasti?n Elcano.'
