Napa Cabbage Prices Surge 160% in One Month
Contributing to Price Stability with Summer Highland Pickled Napa Cabbage
Lotte Mart and its supermarkets are introducing salted napa cabbage to ease the burden on shoppers' baskets.
Due to the heatwave and typhoons following the rainy season, the price of napa cabbage has been on the rise. The wholesale price of napa cabbage has surged 160% in just one month, currently standing at 25,760 KRW for 10kg, which is a 34.9% increase compared to last year and an 82.6% increase compared to the average price. Lotte Mart and its supermarkets explained that, anticipating continued price hikes, they have quickly prepared salted napa cabbage products for consumers planning to make kimchi for the Chuseok holiday before prices rise further.
Lotte Mart and its supermarkets announced on the 21st that they will conduct a pre-order sale of highland salted napa cabbage from the 24th until September 6th. This time, through joint sourcing by Lotte Mart and its supermarkets, the pre-order quantity of salted napa cabbage has been expanded more than twice compared to last year, securing price competitiveness. Despite salt prices being 18.4% higher than last year, the Pyeongchang highland salted napa cabbage (10kg) will be offered at 45,900 KRW, and the Gangneung Anbandegi salted napa cabbage (10kg) at 47,900 KRW.
The Pyeongchang highland salted napa cabbage is a product safely and cleanly manufactured with HACCP certification by the 'Pyeongchang-gun Salted Napa Cabbage Business Group,' certified for quality by the Pyeongchang County Governor. The kimchi seasoning from 'Kkotsuni-ne Kimchi,' a famous kimchi company in Pyeongchang County, is also available for pre-order along with the salted napa cabbage. The Gangneung Anbandegi salted napa cabbage uses premium highland napa cabbage grown at the highest domestic altitude of 1,100 meters. It is a product carefully selected by producer Kim Woo-sung, who has 30 years of experience in salted napa cabbage manufacturing, produced in the latest HACCP-certified facilities located in Eumseong, Chungbuk. During the pre-order period, customers can register at the 'We Will Help You' center in Lotte Mart stores and pick up their orders in-store from September 21 to 23 for three days.
Meanwhile, from the 3rd to the 16th, Lotte Mart and its supermarkets conducted a pre-order sale of fresh dried red chili peppers, whose prices rose after the rainy season, at the same price as last year. This also secured price competitiveness by increasing the prepared quantity by about 50% compared to last year's pre-orders through joint sourcing by the mart and supermarkets. The pre-order sales grew by more than 45% compared to last year, showing strong consumer response.
