Yongsan-gu Signs Agreement with Sookmyung Women’s University for One-Thousand-Won Breakfast Program
If students pay 1,000 won, Yongsan-gu, the central government, and Seoul City each contribute 1,000 won
From September to November, four times a week, 100 students per day... Supporting a total of 4,900 students
Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) signed a business agreement on the 17th with Sookmyung Women’s University (President Jang Yoon-geum) for the “One-Thousand-Won Breakfast” project.
The One-Thousand-Won Breakfast aims to provide affordable breakfast to help students develop healthy eating habits and to promote rice consumption, thereby supporting the income stability of farming households.
Sookmyung Women’s University was selected in a public contest by the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Nongjeongwon) and has been operating the One-Thousand-Won Breakfast at the Sunheon Hall cafeteria on campus since May. The program does not operate during the July-August vacation period.
Jang Yoon-geum, President of Sookmyung Women’s University, shared the enthusiastic response from students, saying, “The breakfast supply runs out even before the designated time ends.”
Starting from the second semester in September, Yongsan-gu joined the effort to provide higher quality breakfasts and expand the number of beneficiary students.
Previously, when a student paid 1,000 won, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Seoul City each contributed 1,000 won, with the remainder covered by Sookmyung Women’s University. With this new agreement, Yongsan-gu will provide an additional 1,000 won, contributing to the qualitative improvement of the breakfast.
Yongsan-gu will support breakfasts for 100 students per day over 49 days (Monday to Thursday), totaling 4,900 breakfasts.
The business agreement ceremony on the 17th was attended by Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, and Jang Yoon-geum, President of Sookmyung Women’s University, among others. Yongsan-gu and Sookmyung Women’s University agreed to faithfully implement the terms of the agreement based on mutual trust and to cooperate in successfully operating the One-Thousand-Won Breakfast program.
