Chungnam Province Lays Out Plans for Smart Livestock Pilot Complex on Reclaimed Land
Chungnam Province has unveiled a blueprint for creating a regional-type information and communication convergence smart livestock pilot complex. The Chungnam-style smart livestock pilot complex project aims to relocate scattered pig farms across the region into a smart livestock complex to solve livestock environmental issues and advance the livestock industry to the next level.
The target sites for the livestock complex development are the Boryeong and Seocheon Busagan reclamation areas and the Dangjin Seokmun reclamation area. Chungnam Province plans to establish smart livestock barns, manure energy facilities, slaughterhouses, and processing plants here for integrated operation.

The research project aims to find the feasibility of designating the reclaimed land as a project area and to establish a utilization plan by February next year.
A representative from Jeonbuk National University, conducting the research, shared the progress during the briefing and exchanged opinions with attendees.
Additionally, the briefing included a presentation by the agricultural corporation Pigland on “Pig Carbon Neutrality and Industrial Convergence,” explaining models for livestock bioenergy and fertilizer production and utilization.
Chungnam Province plans to review the opinions and advisory content derived from the briefing, reflect them in the ongoing research, and proceed with the project procedures through briefings and public hearings for the livestock complex development based on the research results in the first half of next year.

Governor Kim Tae-heum of Chungnam Province stated, “Like an industrial complex, gathering small-scale farms to scale up and handling ‘slaughtering - meat processing - branding - manure treatment - quarantine’ in a one-stop system within the complex is the future livestock industry Chungnam envisions. Chungnam Province will strive to guarantee both the livelihood of local livestock farmers and the environmental rights of the public through the establishment of the Chungnam-style smart livestock complex.”
