The Korea Forest Service announced on the 18th that from the 17th to the 19th, about 40 middle and high school students nationwide will participate in a forest ecological exploration program walking along the national forest trails to explore nature.

The forest ecological exploration will be conducted by dividing participants into two teams along the Baekdudaegan Trail and Daegwallyeong Forest Trail sections. Each team will explore sections of about 10 km.

Twelve professional mountaineers belonging to the Korea Alpine Federation will accompany the program to support the safe hiking of the youth.

This program was jointly prepared by the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Hiking & Trekking Support Center to allow youth to directly experience the national forest trails during summer vacation and to recognize the importance of forest trails themselves.

Nam Sung-hyun, Administrator of the Korea Forest Service, said, “This year marks the 50th anniversary of national land greening in our country,” adding, “I hope that youth will have the opportunity to personally experience the public value of land greening through ecological exploration and understand the ecological characteristics, history, and cultural value of forest trails.”

Meanwhile, the national forest trails are selected forest trails nationwide with high ecological, historical, and cultural value that require systematic operation and management, designated and announced by the Korea Forest Service.

Currently, the designated national forest trails include eight locations: Baekdudaegan Trail, Daegwallyeong Forest Trail, Jirisan Dullegil, DMZ Punchbowl Dullegil, Naepo Cultural Forest Trail, Uljin Geumgang Pine Forest Trail, Hallasan Dullegil, and Daejeon Dullegil.
