Attending EKC 2023 in Munich, Germany from 14th to 18th... Pohang City Promotion Booth Operation
Discussion on European Science and Technology Cooperation, Keynote Speech by POSTECH President Kim Muhwan
From the 14th to the 18th, Pohang City participated in the ‘EKC 2023 (Europe-Korea Science Conference 2023)’ held in Munich, Germany, operating a dedicated promotional booth to strengthen its status as a global science city.
This event is a platform where engineers and scientists from Korea and Europe present and discuss the latest research and achievements. Since its inception in Heidelberg, Germany in 2008, it has been held across various European countries for 15 years, with last year’s event taking place in Marseille, France.
‘EKC 2023’ was held under the theme of ‘Innovative Global Collaboration between Academia and Industry,’ featuring scientific and technological discussions, business sessions, industrial forums, and networking programs. Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) President Kim Moo-hwan participated as a keynote speaker.
Through the operation of the promotional booth, Pohang City actively promoted its excellent research facilities and scientific infrastructure, recently designated as a secondary battery specialized complex, to exhibition participants and scientists. The city also pursued the attraction of outstanding Korean scientific talents in Europe and researcher exchanges.
Additionally, through meetings with participating scientists and technologists, the city discussed cooperation plans and shared knowledge, while understanding the current status and future trends of science and technology, preparing for Pohang’s future growth engines.
Before the ‘EKC 2023’ event, the city visited the Max Planck headquarters in Germany, a global powerhouse of small and medium-sized enterprises, to benchmark the industry-academia-research cooperation status of the research institute. This was aimed at exploring ways to nurture strong small and medium-sized enterprises based on Pohang’s new growth industries and to find efficient support measures.
Founded in 1948 with the goal of promoting science in Germany, the Max Planck Society is a world-class research institution focusing on basic sciences such as natural sciences, biotechnology, and humanities engineering. It operates about 85 research institutes across Germany and has produced a total of 35 Nobel laureates, generating world-class research achievements.
