Gochang-gun Delivers Consolation Gifts to Descendants of Independence Patriots in Commemoration of Liberation Day
Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, delivered consolation gifts to two descendants of independence activists on August 15th, Liberation Day.
According to the county on the 16th, Lee Eun-soon, who moved to the countryside and currently resides in Gongeum-myeon, is the daughter of Lee Geun-seok, who played a significant role in the March 1st Movement in the Nonsan area in 1919 by making Taegeukgi flags and rallying residents for the protests.

He also worked hard to eradicate illiteracy among residents and to inspire the independence spirit among youth by establishing Chaewoon Academy and Sinpung Academy.
Jeong Man-yeop, who lives in Daesan-myeon, is the son of Jeong Hyu-gyu, an independence activist from Gochang. In 1938, Jeong Hyu-gyu organized the Shin-in Alliance, a secret organization opposing Japanese shrine worship in Jeongeup and promoting national consciousness. He carried out activities such as rallying comrades, forming subordinate organizations, and raising funds.
County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “I believe the sacrifices of independence activists to establish the Republic of Korea are beyond words,” and added, “We will strive to become a Gochang-gun that does its best to honor independence activists and their descendants.”
Meanwhile, the county visits descendants of independence activists every year on Liberation Day to offer consolation and plans to continue these visits in the future.
