Daejeon City "Free Bus Fare for Those Aged 70 and Over Starting Next Month"
Daejeon City will implement free bus fares for seniors aged 70 and over starting from the 15th of next month.
Before the implementation of free bus fares, Daejeon City announced on the 14th that it will accept applications for free transportation cards for seniors via in-person visits and mobile starting from the 16th of this month.
Applications will be accepted at touring locations in the five districts from the 16th to the 30th, and from the 31st at Hana Bank branches. Mobile applications can be submitted anytime starting from the 16th.
Daejeon City, the five autonomous districts, and the Dong Administrative Welfare Centers have distributed card issuance notices to approximately 153,000 seniors who are registered residents and currently living in Daejeon.
To receive the card, applicants must bring an ID (resident registration card or driver’s license) and a bankbook in their name (any bank is acceptable). The card can be received at home about 10 days after application.
The touring application locations are as follows: ▲16th at Dong-gu Office (7th floor) ▲17th at Korea Senior Citizens Association Daejeon Jung-gu Branch (2nd floor) ▲18th at Yudeung Senior Welfare Center (3rd floor) ▲21st at Yuseong-gu Senior Welfare Center (Main Auditorium) ▲22nd at Daedeok Culture and Sports Center ▲23rd at Seongnam Multipurpose Gymnasium ▲24th at Daejeon Senior Welfare Center (2nd floor) ▲25th at Gwanjeo Cultural Center (3rd floor) ▲28th at Yuseong Silver Welfare Center (Main Auditorium) ▲29th at Daedeok-gu Office Cheongnyeom Hall ▲30th at Seo-gu Office (2nd floor) ▲and from the 31st at Hana Bank branches.
The card issuance target is those born on or before September 15, 1953, and applications can be submitted at the application locations between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. regardless of the applicant’s residential address.
Ko Hyun-deok, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau of Daejeon City, said, “The free bus fare for seniors is being promoted to reduce the transportation cost burden for citizens aged 70 and over,” and added, “Daejeon City will continue to strive to develop and promote public transportation policies for its citizens.”

Meanwhile, this project is being promoted as a pledge of the 8th local government administration. Daejeon City secured a budget of 3.7 billion KRW for the project in June and signed a business agreement with related organizations last month.
