Mayor Park Hyung-jun: "The light of our nation returns, and with the power of Busan citizens, we will shine it even brighter"
Busan City will hold the ‘78th Liberation Day Celebration’ at 10 a.m. on the 15th at the Citizen Hall Grand Theater.
Before the event, at 9 a.m. on the same day, Mayor Park Hyung-jun and about 30 key officials and organization heads will visit the Liberation Memorial Hall’s spirit tablet enshrinement room to pay tribute to the patriotic ancestors.
Then, at 10 a.m., the 78th Liberation Day ceremony will be held at the Citizen Hall Grand Theater with about 1,000 attendees including heads of veterans’ organizations, independence patriots and their families, key officials, and citizens.
The event will proceed in the order of national ceremony, screening of congratulatory videos, reading of a commemorative speech by Kwon Byung-gwan, head of the Busan branch of the Liberation Association, congratulatory speeches, commemorative choir, singing of the Liberation Day song, and three cheers for victory.
Through this August 15th congratulatory address, Mayor Park Hyung-jun will pay tribute to the independence patriots who achieved liberation through sacrifice and dedication, deeply reflect on the meaning of liberation, and pledge to attract the 2030 World Expo to establish Busan and South Korea as a global hub nation.
Busan City and its autonomous districts and counties are promoting a joint Taegeukgi flag-raising campaign for this Liberation Day. Taegeukgi flags are being displayed on major arterial roads and public transportation to honor the noble sacrifices of the ancestors and to inspire patriotism, creating a Liberation Day atmosphere throughout Busan.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “Inheriting the noble will of the ancestors, we will build a great and strong nation, a country endlessly proud in every field, and Busan will take the lead in this endeavor. The path we are on is not just the prosperity of Busan but the prosperity of the entire Republic of Korea, and with the power of the great citizens of Busan, we will shine the light of the nation, regained by the ancestors 78 years ago, even brighter.”
The city is actively promoting the establishment of an Independence Movement Memorial Park and History Hall that consolidates Busan’s anti-Japanese independence movement history in one place, reflecting the wishes of independence patriots’ families and civic groups.
At the ‘Busan Independence Movement Memorial Park and History Hall Construction Civic Forum’ held on August 9, the Busan Independence Movement History Hall Construction Promotion Committee (representatives Jo Jeong-hee and Lee Kyung-shin) and the Busan branch of the Liberation Association (head Kwon Byung-gwan) jointly adopted a ‘Proposal for the Construction of Busan Independence Movement Memorial Park and History Hall’ and delivered it to Mayor Park Hyung-jun.
