"'Abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family' Will Emerge Urgently After Jamboree Ends"
The organizing committee of the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree caused confusion by assigning accommodations in Hongseong-gun, Chungnam Province, to Yemeni scouts who had not entered the country, prompting Hong Moon-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, to raise his voice, saying, "Even a small local event wouldn't be handled like this."
On the 10th, Representative Hong appeared on BBS Radio's 'Jeon Young-shin's Morning Journal' and said, "It seems they were notified to prepare a system where 175 people, whose entry was not confirmed, would stay and eat at Hyejeon University in Hongseong. But they haven't even entered the country, right?"
Earlier, according to Chungnam Province and Hongseong County, on the morning of the 8th, the Jamboree organizing committee, due to the early withdrawal caused by the northward approach of Typhoon Khanun (Typhoon No. 6), assigned 175 Yemeni scouts to the dormitories of Hyejeon University in Hongseong-gun, Chungnam Province. In response, officials from Chungnam Province, Hongseong County, and Hyejeon University prepared food and waited, but were later informed that the Yemeni scouts had not entered South Korea.
A similar incident occurred in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province. About 80 Syrian scouts were assigned to the NH Talent Center in Goyang, but they also did not participate in the Jamboree.
He pointed out, "Who was in charge of command and who controlled and managed this? When tracking this issue now, no one seems to know," adding, "It is truly shameful and regrettable that an international event was prepared in such an unprepared state."
Representative Hong lamented, "The problem is that such a large event should be operated systematically and organizationally, but it is no exaggeration to say it was done haphazardly," and said, "Internationally, this many mistakes and wrong experiences might be a first for South Korea. It's a truly embarrassing self-portrait."

Regarding calls for the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family following the raising of accountability issues for Minister Kim Hyun-sook, who oversees the Jamboree, Representative Hong said, "I believe this issue will become very prominent once the Jamboree ends," adding, "While it is premature to jump to dismissal, it is a situation where responsibility must be taken."
