Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is collaborating with Korea University (President Kim Dong-won) to provide Korea University dormitories as accommodations and has launched a cultural experience program operated by the district to give Taiwanese participants fond memories in Korea instead of regrets over early withdrawal from the Jamboree.
The Taiwanese participants, who sequentially checked in after 4 p.m. on the 8th, rested at their new accommodations on the first day, and on the 9th, they took part in the ‘Seongbuk City Tour’ operated by Seongbuk-gu. The Seongbuk City Tour is a popular program that utilizes the region’s rich modern and contemporary historical and cultural resources, so much so that it is called the ‘Roofless Museum’ and is often sold out early for foreign visitors and others.
The Taiwanese youth experienced Gilsangsa Temple, which embodies the love story of Baekseok and Jaya and the spirit of non-possession by Beopjeong Monk; the Woori Old Stone Museum, where they could enjoy the beautiful scenery of Seongbuk-dong at a glance; and Odong Forest Library, where they could heal with books in nature. They even exclaimed in Korean, “Seongbuk-gu is awesome.”
Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu took time amid his busy schedule to check on the safety of the Taiwanese youth participating in the Jamboree. After exchanging greetings with the Taiwanese youth at Odong Forest Library, Mayor Lee said, “I fully understand the regret over early withdrawal due to the heatwave and typhoon concerns. I hope you make many meaningful memories in Seongbuk-gu, which is called the Roofless Museum for its concentration of important historical and cultural assets of Korea, and above all, take good care of your health until departure.” He also urged Seongbuk-gu officials to proactively and carefully ensure the safety of all the Taiwanese youth’s movements.
