Mokpo Coast Guard Raises Local Rescue Headquarters Response to Level 2 in Preparation for Typhoon No. 6 'Khanun'
In Case of Situation, All Human and Material Resources Will Be Mobilized, Prompt Actions Including Rescue Operations Planned
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) elevated the regional rescue headquarters to response level 2 as of 11 a.m. on the 9th to proactively respond to Typhoon No. 6 'Khanun,' strengthening preparedness and response measures to prevent typhoon damage.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 9th, Typhoon 'Khanun' is currently approaching the Korean Peninsula with a central pressure of 970 hPa, a strong wind radius of 350 km, and a maximum wind speed near the center of 35 m/s.
The Mokpo Maritime Police expect Typhoon Khanun to directly affect the area from the night of the 9th and have raised the regional rescue headquarters' typhoon response level to 2 for proactive prevention, increasing personnel on a 24-hour emergency response system.
The Maritime Police are taking measures such as directing vessels in their jurisdiction to seek shelter, controlling ships, inspecting the mooring status of docked vessels, restricting access to hazardous areas like ports and breakwaters, and intensifying patrols to ensure thorough prevention of typhoon damage.
Chief Kim Hae-cheol stated, "We will do our utmost to maintain preparedness and response posture by swiftly mobilizing personnel and resources in case of incidents caused by the typhoon and cooperating through information sharing with related agencies to prevent loss of life and property damage."
