Lotte Wellfood Expands Use of Eco-Friendly Containers for Ready-to-Eat Foods
Reusable Plastic Expanded to Sandwich Applications
Lotte Wellfood (formerly Lotte Confectionery) announced on the 9th that it will expand the use of eco-friendly containers made from recycled plastic pyrolysis oil as raw material for ready-to-eat foods (deli), such as convenience store lunch boxes.
The eco-friendly plastic containers previously applied to some lunch box products have been extended to the sandwich category. The products using eco-friendly containers include 13 types of sandwiches supplied to Seven Eleven, Lotte Super, and others.
Lotte Wellfood's eco-friendly lunch box containers use ‘C-rPP (Chemical Recycled PP)’, a chemically recycled pyrolysis oil plastic raw material, mixed with regular polypropylene (PP). Thanks to the use of recycled materials, the consumption of virgin plastic can be reduced.
To achieve this, collaboration was carried out with Lotte Central Research Institute, Lotte Chemical, and Seven Eleven. As a result of inter-affiliate cooperation in March, Lotte Wellfood became the first in the food industry to apply pyrolysis oil plastic containers to four types of Seven Eleven lunch boxes and supplied them.
Lotte Wellfood plans to continuously expand the application of pyrolysis oil plastic containers to deli products in the future. If applied to all lunch box products, it is expected to reduce the use of about 22 tons of virgin plastic raw materials annually.
