Jamboree's Unexpected Move 'K-pop' Concert... Venue and Lineup Changes, Typhoon Variables Included
'Pahaengsatae' Jamboree, Turning Crisis into Opportunity with K-pop Concert?
Controversies over Schedule, Venue, and Lineup Changes... Also Issues with Typhoon Khanun Approaching
The Jamboree held in Saemangeum ended in disgrace with an early withdrawal amid controversies over inadequate facilities and poor management. The northward approach of Typhoon No. 6 toward the Korean Peninsula was a contributing factor. However, as the remaining Jamboree programs continue, attention is focusing on the K-pop concert that will mark the closing ceremony of the Jamboree.
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (hereafter referred to as the World Organization) announced the early withdrawal plan on its website on the 7th. The World Organization stated, "This morning, the government of the Republic of Korea informed the World Organization of the plan for the early withdrawal of all participants of the 25th World Scout Jamboree."
Earlier, the Jamboree held amid a heatwave faced criticism for insufficient preparation as hundreds of participants suffered from heat-related illnesses. Furthermore, suspicions arose that government officials involved with the Jamboree had engaged in 'pleasure trips' disguised as official business, raising concerns about budget misuse and leading to a breakdown in the event.
In this situation, the K-pop concert is gaining attention as an event that could redeem the Jamboree's tarnished reputation. Since it is the most anticipated event in the Jamboree schedule, there is hope it could turn the situation around.
The problem is that confusion is emerging, such as changes in the concert venue and alterations in the lineup of performing artists. The so-called 'K-pop Super Live' was originally scheduled to take place on the afternoon of the 6th at a special outdoor stage in Saemangeum, Buan, Jeollabuk-do, but due to the ongoing heatwave, the venue was changed to Jeonju World Cup Stadium on the 11th for safety reasons. However, as Typhoon Khanun approached and participants left the Jamboree campsite, Seoul's Sangam World Cup Stadium is now being strongly considered as the venue.
The lineup has not yet been finalized. Initially, actor Jang Dong-yoon was set to host the concert, with groups IVE, Zerobaseone, NMIXX, STAYC, Lee Chae-yeon, and Nature scheduled to perform. However, due to the concert schedule changes, Jang Dong-yoon, NMIXX, and STAYC are reported to be withdrawing from the performance.
Typhoon Khanun, which is approaching, is also a concern. Since Khanun is expected to pass through the Korean Peninsula, safety issues may arise. Currently, Khanun is forecasted to make landfall in South Korea on the morning of the 10th as a strong typhoon with a central pressure of 970 hPa, maximum wind speeds of 35 m/s, and a strong wind radius of 350 km. As it is certain to have a direct impact across the entire country, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has activated Level 2 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH).
Tak Hyun-min, a former Blue House protocol secretary and an expert in event planning, emphasized the need for a program that can demonstrate the spirit of scouting to successfully conclude the Jamboree closing ceremony.

On the 8th, Tak, speaking on CBS Radio's Park Jae-hong's Hanpanseungbu, said, "I believe it is essential to include a program that conveys the message of having done one's best until the very end despite difficulties. While the audience may enjoy seeing the idols on site, if there is no deeper message and if each person does not feel and take something away from it, it would be tantamount to failing twice."
