Employees of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) actively led the spread of a sharing culture by visiting various local areas in need of help for neighbors exhausted by the hot weather last weekend.
With the purpose of actively practicing POSCO's unique sharing culture called ‘Volunteering and Sharing,’ Gwangyang Steelworks has designated the third Saturday of every month as ‘Sharing Saturday’ (hereinafter Sharing Sat) since 2004 and has been conducting regular volunteer activities.

As the number of volunteers gradually increased, the activity cycle, which was originally on the third Saturday of each month, was expanded to every Saturday. Employees of Gwangyang Steelworks have developed the spirit of volunteering and sharing.
Even last Saturday, when the highest temperature reached 36 degrees Celsius and the heat was intense, the volunteer relay of Gwangyang Steelworks employees continued. The Hasamo volunteer group of Gwangyang Steelworks visited the Jungma Sarang Weekly Health Center nursing home and shared warmth with the elderly through activities such as △ foot massage △ foot bath △ applying aroma oils and lotions △ and keeping company.
The Candlelight Love volunteer group of Gwangyang Steelworks gathered at the Okgok Senior Nursing Home in Gwangyang City, carrying the brush cutters they prepared themselves, and worked hard removing the weeds that had grown thick in midsummer.
Not only at the nursing home but also around Jungdong Park in Gwangyang City, the traditional play culture volunteer group of Gwangyang Steelworks took the lead, holding tongs and garbage bags, and carried out plogging volunteer activities in Jungdong Park.
Shim Gyu-ho, manager of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “The more volunteer activities we do, the more places we see that have not yet received help,” adding, “We continue our activities with the thought that the more we move, the more our Gwangyang City will become a better place to live.”
Meanwhile, this year marks the 5th anniversary of the declaration of the corporate citizenship management philosophy and the 20th anniversary of the founding of the POSCO Volunteer Group at Gwangyang Steelworks. The company plans to actively strive to realize a company that works with the local community by developing more diverse sharing activities and presenting a model where companies and society develop together for coexistence and mutual growth with the local community.
