ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management systems established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It provides a comprehensive framework for companies to systematically identify and assess their environmental impacts and efficiently manage related processes. The certification is granted after an audit to companies that have established and continuously comply with eco-friendly management systems, including minimizing energy consumption, protecting the environment and preventing accidents, and complying with environmental regulations.
During the certification process, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical received positive evaluations for its business activities such as active facility investments to reduce energy consumption, possession of eco-label certified products (Vita 500, Kwangdong Oksusu Suyupcha [Corn Silk Tea], Kwangdong Heotgaecha [Hovenia Dulcis Tea], etc.), and excellence in environmental impact assessments and environmental objective implementation plans.
Even before adopting ISO 14001, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical has been making efforts toward eco-friendly management. It leads the creation of an eco-friendly organizational culture by operating campaigns such as the 'Reusable Cup Campaign' to reduce disposable waste and the resource circulation campaign 'KD Goodcycling' through donations of goods. Recently, it also launched label-free products in its tea beverage lineup, including Kwangdong Oksusu Suyupcha, Kwangdong Heotgaecha, and Kwangdong Milsikboricha [Wheatgrass Barley Tea]. These products were released to minimize plastic use by removing labels and to improve convenience in recycling.
Choi Sung-won, CEO of Kwangdong Pharmaceutical, said, "Through this ISO 14001 certification, we have established a concrete environmental management system based on the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) model," adding, "We will continue to be a company that practices sustainable management through multifaceted activities for environmental conservation."
