Overseas YouTuber Tests Foldable Phone Durability
Fold Test: Motorola Fails at 120,000 Cycles
Galaxy Z Flip5 Remains Intact Beyond 250,000 Cycles
"When does that person get off work?"
A YouTuber conducting a 'durability' test on Samsung Electronics' latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip5, has been continuing the test for four days, drawing attention. The Motorola Razr 40 Plus, used as a comparison sample for the Flip5, dropped out early. Meanwhile, the Flip5 remains intact even after folding and unfolding 200,000 times.
Earlier on the 3rd (local time), Polish IT specialist YouTuber 'Mrkeybrd' conducted a live broadcast titled "Samsung Z Flip5 vs Motorola Razr 40 Plus (Ultra)".
The content of the broadcast was simple. The foldable phones, Flip5 and Razr 40, were handed to test participants, who repeatedly folded and unfolded their phones. A counter attached to the phones increased with each fold, allowing real-time tracking of how many test cycles the phones endured.
Mrkeybrd explained in the introduction, "This broadcast is not sponsored by Samsung or Motorola," adding, "We specially purchased these phones for this experiment. Each participant will fold and unfold their flip phone until it breaks."
The Motorola device showed abnormal symptoms after about 43,000 folds and was ultimately declared broken after 126,000 folds. The participant testing the Razr 40 left the scene, leaving the broken phone behind.
In contrast, the Flip5 test is ongoing as of 9 a.m. on the 7th. The test has been continuing for four full days. The tester also shows clear signs of fatigue as they repeatedly open and close the phone. The number of folds has already approached 250,000.
This unusual test has attracted global netizens' interest. Especially, netizens expressed sympathy toward the Flip5 participant. Comments included, "When does that person get off work?", "Samsung made an incredibly durable product," "At this rate, they might become a bodybuilder from all that folding and unfolding," and "They should at least give them a shift change." Eventually, the tester was replaced at 9:01 a.m.
Foldable phone manufacturers conduct thorough durability tests before selling their products. Samsung, for example, uses a folding machine to fold phones 200,000 times.

However, since the folding machine repeats opening and closing at a fixed angle and force, there is some discrepancy from real usage conditions. For this reason, Mrkeybrd invited human participants to conduct the test.
