Over 20 Terrorism Suspicion Reports on Line 9 Train on the 6th
The terror misunderstanding incident that occurred on Seoul Subway Line 9 train was identified as a simple happening involving fans returning home after attending a concert by BTS member Suga.
According to police and fire authorities on the 6th, at around 8:36 p.m. that day, about 20 suspicious reports were received from passengers on the Line 9 express train bound for Gimpo Airport, including "There is a strange smell," "People are running and falling," and "There is a rioter inside the station."
Due to these suspicious reports, the train stopped at Sinnonhyeon Station, and passengers, frightened, urgently ran out of the station, causing chaos such as falls on the stairs. Eventually, seven people were reported to have sustained abrasions and bruises.
However, after the fire authorities inspected the inside of the train, they reported no particular abnormalities, transported six injured people to the hospital, and sent one person home. The police stated, "No one carrying a weapon was found after searching inside and outside the train," and called it a "simple happening."
Amid heightened public anxiety due to recent random stabbing incidents at Sillim Station and Seohyeon Station and various 'murder threat' posts, keywords such as 'biochemical terror' and 'weapon rampage' spread on social media regarding the unexplained commotion inside the train.
However, according to eyewitnesses at the scene, the commotion was known to be a happening related to fans returning from watching a solo concert by BTS member Suga. On that day, Suga held the 'Agust D Tour D-Day The Final' concert at KSPO Dome (formerly Olympic Gymnastics Arena) in Songpa-gu, and after the performance ended, many fans boarded the Line 9 train at Olympic Park Station.
The train was packed with fans and other passengers mixed together. While returning home, fans watching Suga's live broadcast on SNS saw him reveal a tattoo on his shoulder, which caused some to get excited and shout, leading other passengers to hear and mistake it for a terror incident.
One netizen posted on 'X' (formerly Twitter), "Suga did a live broadcast right after the concert and revealed a tattoo, and fans on the subway returning home got excited and shouted," adding, "People in the adjacent carriages panicked upon hearing the loud voices and started evacuating, and rumors about gas leaks or knife possession spread after police reports were made."
Another netizen added, "At around 8:33 p.m., Suga revealed a tattoo during a live broadcast, and fans watching on the subway shouted," and "About a minute later, reports were made to the fire department and police." Videos of the situation at the time were also posted on social media.

A netizen who claimed to be at the scene said, "The real terror was that no one knew why they had to run, only hearing words like 'It seems like a stabbing,'" adding, "It reminded me of the movie 'Train to Busan' and the Itaewon tragedy."
They continued, "People were running in one direction, and if the person in front couldn't move, those behind pushed and fell. People were tightly packed between train cars, shouting 'Don't run,' 'Someone is stuck,' and 'You have to get up,'" and said, "I felt an unknown fear approaching. This is what I experienced in the supposedly safe South Korea in 2023."
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency announced that as of noon that day, 46 people nationwide who wrote 'murder threat' posts had been arrested. On the 4th, the police issued an urgent public statement and declared special security activities in preparation for random weapon rampages.
