Kumho Station (Line 3) Exit 4 Escalator... Construction Completed After 2 Years and Opening Begins
Opening Ceremony Held on the 4th, Attended by Transportation Committee Chair Park Jung-hwa and Technical Director Kim Seong-ryeol
Director Kim Seong-ryeol: “Thankful to citizens for their cooperation despite inconveniences during construction... We will strive to expand passenger convenience facilities”
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) has completed the two-year construction of the escalator at Exit 4 of Kumho Station on Line 3 and has begun its operation.
Kumho Station was completed in 1985 and, as of 2022, serves approximately 14,000 passengers daily.
Near Kumho Station are large apartment complexes, multi-family housing, and traditional markets. Among the four exits, only Exit 4 lacked an escalator, which had continuously caused inconvenience complaints from residents.
A Seoul Metro official stated, “With this opening, we expect subway use to become more convenient for local residents and the main customers of Geumnam Market, who are mostly middle-aged and older.”
The opening ceremony held at 4 p.m. on the 4th was attended by Seoul Metro Technical Director Kim Seong-ryeol, Kumho Station Manager, and Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee Chair Park Jung-hwa.
Chair Park Jung-hwa said, “The installation of the escalator at Exit 4 of Kumho Station has made subway use more convenient for residents of Kumho and Oksu-dong,” adding, “I express my gratitude to Seoul Metro officials who always work hard for citizen convenience and safe subway operations.”

Director Kim Seong-ryeol said, “We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of citizens despite many inconveniences such as usage restrictions during the construction period,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that the ongoing passenger convenience facility projects at 19 locations in 16 stations, including Dongdaemun History & Culture Park, Yangjae, Nowon, and Taereung Entrance stations, are completed without delay.”
