On the 3rd, a 'random stabbing rampage' incident occurred at a shopping mall near Seohyeon Station in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, spreading fear among citizens. Meanwhile, threats of similar crimes at Ori Station and Jamsil Station have been spreading online.
On the 3rd, numerous posts threatening to carry out stabbings at subway stations in Seoul and the Gyeonggi-do area were posted on various online communities.
At 6:42 PM that day, a photo of a post appeared on Telegram stating, "On Friday, August 4th, between 6 PM and 10 PM, I will stab people near Ori Station," and "I no longer want to live and will kill as many people as possible, including the police."
The author of the post wrote, "The reason I will stab people at Ori Station is because my ex-girlfriend lives nearby," and also added, "I hope everyone you know dies."
At 7:02 PM on the same day, a threat post appeared on DC Inside saying, "I will kill 20 people at Jamsil Station tomorrow morning," and "Do you really think someone like you can stop my stabbing?" The post has since been deleted.
In addition, as posts such as "I will kill 20 men at Seohyeon Station," "I will stab people at Hanti Station at 10 PM on the 4th," and "I will kill 100 people at Gangnam Station" were posted one after another, the police have launched an investigation to find the original author of the posts.
It is also known that personnel have been deployed around the subway stations mentioned in the threats and are closely monitoring the situation. A police official told Yonhap News Agency, "In the event of a stabbing incident, we will swiftly deploy available personnel and respond with full force."
Meanwhile, at around 6 PM on the 3rd, a stabbing rampage occurred at AK Plaza near Seohyeon Station in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do. The suspect, Choi (22), reportedly drove a vehicle onto the sidewalk, hitting pedestrians, then entered the shopping mall and wielded a knife.
