Measures such as feed recall and disposal
Ongoing trace investigation of feed distribution channels
On the 4th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that the avian influenza antigen (H5 type) detected on the 1st in pet food collected as part of an epidemiological investigation at a facility in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, where highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in cats, was finally confirmed as highly pathogenic (H5N1 type) on the 3rd.
The pet food confirmed to contain highly pathogenic avian influenza was "Balanced Duck (product name)" manufactured on the 5th of last month by "Nature's Raw" located in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Two products, "Balanced Duck" and "Balanced Chicken," manufactured between May 25 and August 1, during which sterilization and pasteurization processes were not properly implemented at the company, are currently being recalled and disposed of.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs promptly shared and disseminated the detection situation to related agencies such as the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and local governments immediately after the avian influenza (H5 type) antigen was detected in cat food on the 1st. Epidemiologists from the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency are conducting a trace investigation by identifying the distribution routes of raw materials supplied to the company.
Local governments are conducting emergency surveillance on purchasers of the products to check for clinical symptoms in cats. Based on the epidemiological investigation results from the Quarantine Agency, disinfection, inspection, and other quarantine measures are being implemented at related facilities and farms.
