Gwangjin-gu, Special Crackdown on Harmful Environments for Youth Including Room Cafes
Joint Crackdown by District Office, Police Station, and Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Team for Summer Vacation
Focused Inspection on Youth-Harmful Businesses Near Schools such as Room Cafes and Comic Cafes
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) conducted a special crackdown on youth harmful environments on the 28th of last month in preparation for the summer vacation.
This is to prevent crimes or delinquency by blocking contact due to concerns that youths may be exposed to harmful environments during summer vacation and holiday seasons.
This crackdown focused on violations of the "Youth Protection Act" at a total of seven locations including room cafes, comic cafes, and board game cafes, which have become new places of deviation for youths. Centered around Konkuk University Station where many youths are active, a joint inspection team of about 20 members consisting of Gwangjin-gu, the police station, and the Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Team conducted guidance and inspections.
The inspection focused on ▲absence of youth harmful signs ▲violations of youth entry and employment prohibitions ▲sale of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes to youths ▲and whether violations were rectified. For youth harmful businesses, it was carefully checked whether youth entry and employment restrictions were actually being enforced.
Additionally, the district plans to continue management to prevent youths from being exposed to harmful environments through public-private joint campaigns for youth protection and surprise inspections, and will take strong measures such as correction orders and fines if violations are detected.
