Yoon Blurs Lines Between Vacation and Work... Visits Saemangeum on First Day, Jinhae on Second Day
Last Year's Vacation 'Rest' → Simultaneous Execution of Important Schedules This Year
Attended Saemangeum Secondary Battery Investment Agreement Ceremony and Jamboree Opening Ceremony on the First Day
Overnight Stay at Jinhae Naval Base Followed by a Tour of the Naval Port
President Yoon Suk-yeol toured the naval base in Jinhae, Gyeongnam, on the second day of his summer vacation on the 3rd. Following his attendance on the first day of vacation at the secondary battery investment agreement ceremony and the opening ceremony of the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree in Saemangeum, Jeonbuk, he has been carrying out important schedules for two consecutive days rather than resting.
The presidential office spokesperson announced to the press, "President Yoon arrived late last night at the naval base in Jinhae, Gyeongnam, stayed overnight, and toured the naval port within the Jinhae base this morning." President Yoon wore a hat inscribed with 'pcc-772,' symbolizing the patrol ship Cheonan, and a Cheonan ship T-shirt, encouraging the soldiers serving at the home port where the naval vessels are docked.
Like the first day of his vacation, on the second day, he showed a schedule closer to an official engagement rather than rest. Last summer, during his vacation, he stayed at his residence in Seocho-dong, communicated via phone call with then U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who visited at the time, watched a play, and spent private time emphasizing that "vacation is vacation." However, this year, President Yoon's vacation is analyzed as having no boundary between work and rest.

Given the numerous pressing issues, President Yoon is observed to intend to devote much time not only to recharging but also to directly overseeing various important schedules such as economic and international events, as well as planning future political affairs.
On the previous day, President Yoon attended the secondary battery investment agreement ceremony in Saemangeum, where LS Group, Saemangeum Development Agency, Jeonbuk Provincial Government, and related organizations signed an investment agreement to build a core secondary battery material manufacturing facility worth 1.84 trillion won based in the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex. At the event, President Yoon stated, "Secondary batteries, along with semiconductors, are core strategic assets of our country," promising government-level support.
Later, at the opening ceremony of the 2023 World Jamboree held in Saemangeum, Buan, Jeonbuk, President Yoon encouraged over 43,000 scout members, saying, "When you, full of responsibility and a spirit of service, unite and cooperate, you will be able to help not only local communities and the nation but also countries and people in need internationally, and respond to the crises and challenges facing humanity." He also ordered the government to prepare measures for the health and welfare of the scouts participating in the jamboree. Additionally, he discussed countermeasures for the defective construction of the Muryangpan apartment with Chief Secretary Kim Dae-gi and senior aides via phone.
President Yoon's visit to the Jinhae naval base, considered an important stronghold of the Korea-U.S. alliance, is also interpreted as a security cooperation move ahead of the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit scheduled for the 18th. The presidential office stated, "The Jinhae base visited by President Yoon today houses major Korean units such as the Navy Submarine Command and the U.S. Navy Fleet Support Unit, making it a key base for the Korea-U.S. alliance and naval operations."
