According to the Vietnamese media Lao Dong on the 29th of last month, Ni won the crown at the Miss World Vietnam pageant held on the 22nd of last month. However, her remarks during interviews and media tours following the competition immediately stirred controversy.
Born in 2002, Ni said, "While my peers were spending time sleeping, playing, and drinking milk tea, I was participating in beauty pageants," adding, "While my friends were attending school and working, I had already become a beauty queen, so I will manage myself better to become a person worthy of this position in the future."
Ni's remarks quickly spread through social networking services (SNS) and sparked controversy. An anti-community against Ni was formed among netizens, gaining 210,000 members within a few days.
Inine was born in 2002 in Binh Dinh Province and majored in Business Administration at Vietnam National University International University in Ho Chi Minh City. On the 22nd of last month, she won the competition, beating 39 other contestants, and after one year of training, she will participate in Miss World next year.

They criticized her, saying, "Strip Ni of her Miss World qualification" and "She is not qualified to participate in international competitions," expressing their resentment. One netizen commented, "True beauty requires not only appearance but also soul and perception," which resonated with many.
Eventually, on the 29th of last month, Ni appeared on a broadcast and tearfully apologized, saying, "I was inexperienced in speaking in public. I am sorry for hurting my peers." However, public anger does not seem to be subsiding easily.

Vietnamese national swimmer Nguyen Hu Kim Son posted on SNS, "I am your age, and your Wikipedia page was created 7 hours ago, but I have had mine since I was 15," adding, "While you were struggling to enter beauty pageants, I became a national representative of Vietnam and competed in international competitions," targeting Ni's remarks.
In response, Phuong Le, a 2017 Mrs. World titleholder, sided with Ni and sarcastically replied to Kim Son's comment, "People remember Ang Bien (Vietnamese female national swimmer, 2014 Asian Games bronze medalist), but they don't remember you. Congratulations on becoming famous because of this incident."
Kim Son retorted, "Then I want to ask if you are remembered in the Miss Universe world. You are just an adult fighting with a kid," and Vietnamese netizens have continued the mudslinging through comments on SNS.
