Railway Corporation Announces Public Contest for Utilization Projects of Idle Railway Land
The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 3rd that it will hold a proposal contest for the '2023 Second Half Railway Idle Land Utilization Project' until the 25th of this month.
The contest targets idle railway land nationwide. Submitted proposals will undergo practical evaluation through on-site investigations and review by an expert group at the Railway Idle Land Utilization Deliberation Committee, with the final selection to be made in November this year.
Previously, since 2015, the Rail Network Authority has been implementing the railway idle land utilization project targeting local governments. So far, 40 local governments nationwide have participated in the project, promoting 58 projects including the Pohang Cheolgil Forest.
In the first half of this year, 17 projects were proposed by 16 local governments, of which 11 projects were selected as idle land utilization projects.

Kim Han-young, Director of the Rail Network Authority, stated, “We will transform idle railway land nationwide into urban regeneration and resident-friendly spaces by region to contribute to balanced national development. Conversely, in line with the government's national property policy direction, properties that have lost their administrative purpose will be sold or leased to the private sector to contribute to the expansion of national finances.”
