Diverse Events to Commemorate the 78th Anniversary of Liberation Day, Honor the Patriotic Martyrs, and Reflect on the Meaning of Liberation
Exhibition of Udang Lee Hoe-yeong, Presentation of Commemorative Plaques to Families of Independence Patriots, Special Lectures and Guide Programs

Jung-gu District Office in Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) hung a large banner at the main building on the 1st to commemorate the 78th Liberation Day. A variety of events are also being held to honor the ancestors who sacrificed for the country and to reflect on the significance of liberation.
A special exhibition introducing the life and achievements of Udang Lee Hoe-yeong will be held in the lobby on the first floor of Jung-gu Office. Lee Hoe-yeong (李會榮, 1867?1932, born in Myeongdong) sold all his properties in Myeongdong and Namdaemun areas after the 1910 Eulsa Treaty, and with his six brothers and 60 family members, moved to Manchuria to establish the Shinheung Military Academy and train independence fighters. The exhibition will run from the 10th to the 18th.
Gratitude will also be expressed to independence patriots and their families. The district plans to present appreciation plaques to 26 families of independence patriots. In the underground level 2 parking lot of Jung-gu Office, two parking spaces have been designated as priority parking for national merit recipients. On the 10th, a commemorative plaque ceremony will be held with invited veterans’ organizations.
A special lecture on learning history correctly will also take place. On the 10th at 10 a.m., Professor Seo Kyung-deok from Sungshin Women’s University will give a lecture titled “Korean History and Historical Promotion, Why Is It Necessary?” at Sindang Nuri Center. Elementary after-school care classes and public and national daycare centers will hold various activities such as making Taegeukgi flags and pinwheels, learning Liberation Day songs, and marching while holding Taegeukgi flags to reflect on the meaning of Liberation Day.
The “Jangchungdan Path of National Defense” walking tour program will also be expanded. Participants can walk from Jangchungdan Park to the National Theater with a guide and hear vivid stories of the independence movement. It will be held daily from the 14th for five days, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Registration is available on the Seoul Public Service website.
