Ministry of Health and Welfare Strengthens Protection Measures for Vulnerable Elderly Against Heatwaves
The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 1st that it will strengthen and implement protection and support measures against heatwaves to prevent damage to vulnerable elderly people caused by the heatwave.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare stated, "During a heatwave advisory, outdoor activities should be avoided, and attention should be paid to health management by drinking plenty of water and taking breaks." Since May, the Ministry has been implementing the 'Heatwave Protection Measures for Vulnerable Elderly.' When a heatwave advisory is issued, dedicated personnel for elderly customized care services check the safety of 500,000 elderly service users via phone calls or visits. Additionally, an emergency safety assurance service utilizing information and communication technology quickly detects dangerous situations for the elderly. In case of an emergency, pressing the emergency call button automatically reports to 119, or activity sensors detect suspected falls.
